The American Dream
is to own your own home. It is important to one’s self esteem and family. Credit
problems are something that many families or individuals worry about. But don’t despair, even if
you have credit problems HANDS offers homeownership counseling to assist you in being able to pursue the “American Dream”
of homeownership. Homeownership counseling defines and points the way to solving problems.
A certified counselor
will assist families or individuals in overcoming barriers that keep them from becoming homeowners. They
will help them understand what is on their credit report, how to correct or improve items encouragement and support as the
family works to become mortgage ready.
Accounts remain on your credit file for seven years after the date paid or the date last
active. Bankruptcies stay on for 10 years. Judgements, federal liens and other court
ordered records remain until paid.
What is on your credit?
· Personal information – including you name, social security number,
addresses both past and present and employers both past and present.
· Seven years of payment history on credit accounts.
· Public records – including judgments, bankruptcies, tax liens,
foreclosures, repossessions, etc.
· Inquires, for credit in the past 90 days.
· Consumer statement (up to 100 words)
Credit Report
Consumers are
now allowed to receive one free credit report each year from each of the three credit bureaus. You can
get these reports by going to www.annualcreditreport.com you will be asked questions that only you will know the answers to for verification purposes. If
